The Nollywood & African Film Critics’ Awards, commonly known as The NAFCA, are U.S. awards for achievements in the film industry and The NAFCA Honors are awarded to recognize outstanding individuals whose professional careers have been marked by extraordinary personal and professional accomplishments. Honorees and winners are awarded the NAFCA Trophies, officially the Award of Merit that is much better known by its nickname NAFCA. The awards, first presented in 2011 at the RTP Sheraton Imperial Hotel in Durham North Carolina, are overseen by the Nollywood Film Critics USA. The NAFCA Special Honors were presented for the first time in 2011 to President Nelson Mandela. Recipients of this award in subsequent years include His Imperial Majesty Kabiyesi Alaiyeluwa Oba Okunade Sijuwade Olubuse II The Ooni of Ife, James Brown, Bobby Womack, President Paul Biya, President Yahya Jammeh of The Gambia, Dr. Folorunsho Alakija, Oscars’ award winner Louis Gossett Jr., Hollywood actors Glynn Thurman, Keith David, Marla Gibbs, Steven Williams and Lawrence Hilton Jacobs among others. The NAFCA and The NAFCA Honors are presented yearly during the second weekend in September. The NAFCA is designed to globally promote African Cinema and culture. The prestigious NAFCA and The NAFCA Honors are awards of merit and are considered the highest African film and honorary awards. The 6th NAFCA and The NAFCA Honors 2016 awards will hold on the 19th of November at the historic Alex Theatre of Glendale, California USA.
The Nollywood and African Film Critics’ Awards also known by the press as the African Oscars and or the NAFCA was founded in 2011 which is the most prestigious film, honorary and people’s choice awards in Hollywood by an African organization.
The mission for the NAFCA has been to improve the African cinema by connecting Africa to the rest of the world.
The awards include: The NAFCA Film Awards -32 categories, The NAFCA Honors -10 categories and Nollywood & African People’s Choice Awards -32 categories of competition in the film, humanities, business, sports and music. More than 500 million fans of the African cinema and entertainment in general follow these prestigious awards annually.
The NAFCA Awards will stand firmly with the rest of the world to up lift positive messages to the world by celebrating the African arts and culture through films and music. The African world of film and music are well positioned today to lead in the world entertainment.

The NAFCA Honors will encompass the great accomplishments of individuals that have excelled in their craft and professional achievements, lifetime achievements, and effortless work as humanitarians thus: the awards are given annually to recognize outstanding individuals whose lives have been marked by extraordinary personal and professional accomplishments.
The NAFCA is a six year award show, but have great brand recognition from around the world that's supported by millions of people of different ages. Some may say The NAFCA is a new concept, Yes but No! The Nollywood film industry is 20 years old and is the second largest (in terms of volume) film industry in the world after India’s Bollywood.
